Punjabi Rapper One Signata Nach: The Early Years
One Signata Nach was born and raised in Rochester, NY (New York, USA) and began his rapping experience at the age of 6. His childhood was tainted by racism and alienation - a problem he frequently addresses in his music as a tribute to young South Asians (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Punjabi, Sri Lankan, Nepali) who deal with same problem and often forget that this is a larger issue that affects the entire young Desi (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Punjabi, Sri Lankan, Nepali) community and immigrants in general. Desi hip hop music was a dream of his as a youngster, influenced by such genius musicians as Bally Sagoo, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Malkit Singh, Apache Indian and A.R. Rahman (some favorites listed below).
Throughout his childhood he dabbled in as many musical endeavors as was available to a young South Asian boy growing up in a rural area. He started composing music on the piano before he was 10 years old and starting at the age of 12 he spent endless hours using cut and paste music editing programs to create beats that crossed genres of traditional Punjabi music, dancehall bhangra music, classical hindi music, western Bollywood music and mainstream hip hop music. His parents, Kavita and Ashok Rajpal, both of whom excelled in the art of music encouraged Nikhil (One Signata Nach) to pursue his hobby and expand upon his talent. Shortly after marrying the love of his life, Priyanka Mukherjee (granddaughter of Hrishikesh Mukherjee), Nikhil started his career in the hip hop music industry.
